Microsoft Shows Off Windows 7 with Free Santa Photos

Microsoft’s Picture Perfect Holiday program offered shoppers and airport travelers a shot at the Windows 7 platform—and a shot of Christmas spirit, too.

The program’s objectives were to generate multiple trials, provide hands-on demos, promote the simplicity and utility of the new Windows and create an emotional connection that would lead consumers to shift their operating system preference to Windows 7. The idea was to make it easy (and free) for people to get their traditional Santa photos taken, and then edit and share them using Windows 7.

To reach the greatest number of families possible, Microsoft partnered with Southwest Airlines, taking over 21 airport concourses all over the country for 12 days. Plus, Microsoft set up shop for 36 days in one of the prime malls along Chicago’s Michigan Avenue and for 31 days in two Westfield Malls. Families posed with Santa for three professional photographs. Then, brand ambassadors led families to a laptop to view their photos in a Windows Live Photo Gallery and edit them using Photo Fuse. Everyone walked away with a free print, a feel for the new Windows capabilities and a dose of holiday cheer.
