Our Favorite Pop-Up Experiences of 2017 So Far

If you haven’t been living under a rock for the past few weeks, you’ve probably seen a handful of Coachella pop-ups that all looked like sweet pool parties and giant photo ops. We’re not knocking these experiences (we would love to be at a pool party right now!), but we didn’t see much variety in the experiences offered by these pop-ups. We’ve seen so many awesome pop-ups this year that stray far from the instagrammable pool party model, so we’ve rounded up our favorite pop-ups from 2017 to date.

Rihanna’s Puma Fenty Pop-Up Shop

This falls more in line with the traditional kind of pop-up shop, but we love the level of fan engagement offered. Celebrity pop-ups usually see complaints about the celebrity showing up late and only staying for a few minutes. Rihanna did not only show up, but spent some time talking to fans, having fun with them, and even ringing them up at the register, making for a truly unforgettable experience.

HBO’s SXSW Escape Room

HBO’s pop-up space was a little more unusual than most pop-ups you see at big events like SXSW. HBO created an escape room experience with three rooms modeled after the sets of Veep, Silicon Valley, and Game of Thrones. We love this concept – it’s a super interactive experience that completely immerses fans in the worlds of their favorite shows. Taco Bell’s Speakeasy

New Yorker’s love a speakeasy, especially one that serves tacos. To go with the “anti” Naked Chicken Chalupa campaign, Taco Bell opened a pop-up speakeasy in New York to give away their newest menu item, the Naked Chicken Chalupa. To get into the speakeasy, people had to call a number to reserve a time. Over the two days the pop-up was open, only 500 people were allowed in to get a free drink and a free Naked Chicken Chalupa. The time sensitivity and exclusivity of this pop-up makes it a genius way to drum up excitement and add an extra cool-factor to the already cool Taco Bell brand.
