Taking advantage of the foot traffic from the many discussion panels on the fourth floor of the Austin Convention Center, Microsoft set up a chic booth (a black and white Audrey Hepburn print on the wall set the tone) divided into three sections showcasing its Windows 7 technology, Silverlight (a free, cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in that enables Internet applications and media experiences online) and its gaming offerings. The Windows 7 section features a walk-up bar with three laptops using both touch-based and keyboard and mouse technologies with brand ambassadors on hand to provide demos and answer questions. For a more Silverlight-focused experience, the company set up a central section with three desks, seats and laptops to provide an overview for interested attendees. The third section, designed to look like a modern living room, spotlights the brand’s gaming products with Guitar Hero instruments and an Xbox system hooked up to a flat-screen TV for guest’s gaming pleasures.
