Interactives: Turner Classic Movies Deploys DC-3 At Air Show Exhibit

Posted on by

Turner Classic Movies is letting consumers step inside a vintage DC-3 airplane as part of the network’s activation at four air shows this summer. The cable channel has set up shop at shows in Seattle Indianapolis and St. Louis and it heads to Virginia Beach VA this weekend. (It also exhibited at the Chicago Air & Water Show but without the aircraft.)

Aviation buffs are given the opportunity to pose for photos step inside the passenger compartment and talk to the plane’s owner and crew. Having pilots there to interact with guests is a key Cathy Boardman TCM’s vp-affiliate marketing and special events told Buzz. “We think it’s really important. We take movies so seriously and we wouldn’t want to pretend that we could go out and be an expert on World War II aircraft. We wanted to bring along an aviation expert to be there with us.”

Oh and there is a movie tie-in: Following the day’s activities at each show TCM erects a 9-by-16 screen for a free showing of “Casablanca.” The network chose the venues betting that audiences interested in vintage aircraft also are classic film aficionados. Boardman said up to 750 people per day have stepped on board the plane and crowds for the movie screening have averaged a few hundred people. Agency: Javelin St. Louis.
