The pillared front façade of Gotham Hall on Broadway in New York City glowed an LG magenta on Sept. 17, a little taste of the colors and experiences that awaited guests inside. The part gala, part awards program, part press event was the culmination of LG Electronics USA’s Art of the Pixel competition, which helped launch LG’s new 4K OLED TV and supported the arts in the process through more than $250,000 in grants, and prizes (Barkley Kalpak Agency, New York City, handled).
Students at nine top U.S. art schools were invited to create pieces to suit the display color and clarity of the LG Ultra HD and OLED TVs. These “digital canvases” hosted the finalists’ artwork in an interactive gallery setting and cocktail hour. A three-course dinner, the awards—hosted by advisor Neil Patrick Harris—and a performance by breakout U.K. singer Sam Smith, followed. Executives, clients and press mingled in a sea of gowns and tuxedos… celebrity supporters of the arts Kevin Spacey, Sarah Jessica Parker and Sandra Lee, included.
