FEARnet Feeds Zombie Roadkill to Eager Halloweenies
To promote the Oct. 4 premiere of the new web series “Zombie Roadkill,” starring Thomas Haden Church, online network FEARnet is serving up undead treats at haunted houses in five markets as part of a partnership with the America Haunts network. The series is about college kids who get attacked by the reanimated corpses of recently killed roadside animals, and all does not go well.

Alzheimer’s Association Gets Into Gear with Cycling Relay
To raise awareness about Alzheimer’s disease and to collect signatures on a petition asking Congress to make the disease a national priority, 55 Alzheimer’s researchers are spinning their way across the country in a cycling relay. The 67-day, 4,500-mile ride, called the Alzheimer’s Breakthrough Ride, launched on July 17 in San Francisco after a ceremonial kick-off a week earlier at the Alzheimer’s Association International Conference in Hawaii. The relay has proven so successful the association has doubled its original goal of 50,000 signatures to 100,000.

Aetna Dishes Up Healthy Food Fight Tour
As part of its efforts to promote health and wellness, insurance provider Aetna on Sept. 1 launched the Aetna Healthy Food Fight. The 10-city tour, developed with chefs from The Culinary Institute of America (CIA), kicked off with an employee event at Aetna’s corporate headquarters in Hartford, CT, that featured an appearance by celebrity chef Bobby Flay.

Sears’ Flash Mob Cooks up Interest in Chef Challenge Events
On July 31, Sears organized a flash mob at Chicago’s Navy Pier to drive consumer interest in its Sears Chef Challenge cooking competition, a series of events held at the brand’s Kenmore Live Studio pop-up shop. The competition awards the winners of each round with various prizes, including kitchen appliances and a donation to the charity of their choice. The surprise dance routine took place in Gateway Park and inspired passersby to shoot videos and photos that, once posted online, extended the reach of the event.

Oracle Welcomes Java Users to the Family
Oracle’s new Java Road Trip hit the road on June 17 and will stop in 17 U.S. cities where it will visit with its loyal Java User Groups, or JUGs, and let them know that they are a welcome addition to the “Oracle family” since the Sun Microsystems acquisition late last year. The Road Trip consists of a tour bus loaded with fun activities, food, Java programming experts and ice cold drinks. It is expected to conclude in September.
