    RIM on Feb. 14 rolled out a 10-week mobile SmartBuilder for BlackBerry tour targeting owners of small- to medium-sized businesses. Among the stops was ConExpo-Con/Agg, the construction trade show held in Las Vegas March 22 to 26, where its mobile devices and services were on display on a small van pulled by a shiny black electric car.

    Department store holiday windows have traditionally regaled kids of all ages who ooh and aah at their Santa scenes and gift displays. Last year, however, at the Neiman Marcus flagship store in Dallas, not only could they ogle the windows, for the second holiday season in a row, they could actually participate in the story as they climbed into tubes and crawled through the set.

  • Risky Buzzness: Guerrilla Marketing Walks the Line

    Who can forget Cartoon Network’s 2007 “Aqua Teen Hunger Force” guerrilla marketing stunt that triggered a bomb scare and cost the brand and its handling agency $2 million paid to Boston-area authorities? (Ouch!) Or, last year at the World Cup in South Africa when during the Netherlands vs. Denmark match, two Dutch women were arrested for allegedly violating trademark laws after a group of 36 women turned up at the game wearing short dresses in Bavaria beer’s signature orange color.

  • Monster.com Connects with Early Adopters at SXSW

    To connect with tech-savvy trendsetters at the South by Southwest Interactive, Film and Music Festival in Austin, Texas, March 11-20, job board Monster.com created on- and off-line experiences promoting its latest job searching capabilities. In addition to a presence on sxsw.com, the brand interacted with attendees at its Hiring Hub, a booth on the event’s trade-show floor. It also sponsored networking events and teamed up with social sites like Gowalla, the location-based check-in provider for the show this year.

  • Turner Sports Launches NCAA Bracket Lounge in New York City

    There were many changes to the March Madness program this year: Expansion to 68 teams, starting on a Tuesday instead of the traditional Thursday and broadcasting every tournament game across several networks, breaking the CBS network’s nearly 30-year run as exclusive broadcaster of the games. To promote its new involvement and to help fans get a handle on the shortened timeframe for filling out tourney brackets, the Turner Sports network launched the Bracket Lounge in New York City’s Time Warner Center on March 14, dubbing the occasion National Bracket Day.
