UHC Adds Triathlon Properties to Portfolio

UnitedHealthcare has signed on as title sponsor of the 2008 Nautica NYC Triathlon’s two-day expo which will be held July 18-19. The healthcare provider also has renewed its title sponsorship of the 2008 Nation’s Triathlon sports and fitness expo which will take place Sept. 12-13 in Washington DC.

Triathlon involvement makes sense for the company for a number of reasons Krishnan Sridharan regional director-strategic marketing UnitedHealthcare Northeast and Mid-Atlantic told Buzz. One reason: It helps bring the brand’s tagline—Healing health care. Together—to life.

“The triathlon fits really well with us because the goal here is to create communities that are healthier ” Sridharan said. “We are constantly trying to improve the health of the communities that we insure.”

Activation is still in planning stages but will include a booth at the expo giveaways and materials about UHC’s wellness programs. A mini health expo will offer opportunities to test body fat index and possibly a diabetes screening.

Last year the company sponsored a mobile wellness tour that traveled to UHC’s existing customers benefit administrators prospects and brokers. This year it is looking at expanding its marketing to include marathon sponsorships. Agency: Precision Sports Entertainment Madison NJ.
