Staples Promotional Products, the business division of Staples, the office retailer, partnered with the USOC in a June 13 ribbon-cutting ceremony for the newest Team USA shop, which is located at the Olympic training center in Chula Vista, CA. Staples, a 20-year partner of the USOC, will manage that shop as well as a second located at the training center in Colorado Springs, CO.
At the ribbon-cutting, Staples kicked off a Foursquare check-in campaign as part of an effort to drive a $15,000 donation from the retailer to the team. For every visitor who uses Foursquare to check into the Chula Vista and Colorado Springs stores, as well as any of its 1,500 Staples stores nationwide, the retailer will contribute one dollar to the USOC Raise Our Flag campaign, a program in which Olympic supporters can purchase stitches in the U.S. flag that will accompany the athletes to the London 2012 Games. In addition, a portion of sales from both stores will go to support the athletes. Executives from Staples and the USOC along with Olympic BMX qualifier Arielle Martin were on hand for event.
“We were looking for ways to expand and create awareness around the good work that the USOC does, and to continue to enhance its visibility and awareness in a market that is a key training center for Olympic athletes,” Anne McKeough, vp-global sales at Staples Promotional Products, told Buzz.
