VH1 Re-Launches ‘Pop Up Video’ with Augmented Reality
VH1, the music video channel, re-launched its hit series “Pop Up Video” on August 6, and to promote the rebirth of such an iconic bit of programming and build some buzz, the network deployed an augmented reality experience at Lollapalooza in Chicago Aug. 3 to 5 and at the Summer MixTape Fest in Hershey, PA on Aug. 17 and 18. The idea was to make the attendees and music fans the stars of their own Pop Up Videos.

CityTarget Takes Aim at Urban Shoppers
To promote the July 25 grand opening of Chicago’s new CityTarget, the retailer created a series of experiential activations that engaged consumers and excited them about the new store. The store is one of five smaller-scale “urban” Targets slated to launch this year in Los Angeles, San Francisco and Seattle. The new stores are about two-thirds the size of Target stores typically located in suburban areas and offer home goods, apparel, beauty supplies and grocery products that appeal to young, trendy city dwellers.

Geico Revs Up Sturgis Rally Sponsorship
For this year’s Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, Geico, a lead sponsor for the eighth year, moved into high gear to draw new customers and get the Lizard (or Gecko) out all over its competition. Sturgis is the biggest bike rally in the U.S., with more than half a million riders on the streets of Sturgis, S.D., from August 6 to 12.

Stonyfield Enlists Food Superheroes
Stonyfield, the organic dairy brand, this summer is activating a Know Your Food mobile tour to educate consumers about healthy food choices. The six-city tour includes grassroots marketing, small community events and guerrilla sampling at each stop and ties in with Stonyfield’s year-long Food Superheroes online campaign.

With a mirror-encased shell that creates a look more Buck Rogers than eco-friendly fuel company, BP’s Fueling the Future experience focused on the “many practical, progressive steps” the oil company is taking to help the world become more efficient and eco-friendly.
