The workplace of the future is here, and as an agency leader, there are challenges and opportunities before you. After a tenuous start to the year with AI adoption moving at full speed, economic uncertainty around every corner, and new faces at the client table, you continue to navigate an evolving talent landscape with unique demands and practices.
A workplace report in the Harvard Business Review outlined top trends for 2024 that’s worth a read. Among them, the fact that AI won’t necessarily replace people, but instead will spur new roles or a reconfiguration of current roles. It’s one of many reasons your organization should settle on a firm AI practice and policy sooner than later.
Another point to consider—skills are overtaking degree requirements, something that is common practice within the event agency world, but Fortune 1000s are now following suit. The practice allows organizations to “hire from a much broader talent pool that includes both internally developed talent and workers through Skilled Through Alternative Routes (STARs),” the report explains. Brands like Amazon are creating in-house universities to develop and prepare STARs talent.
And then there’s this interesting trend: the career break. With Americans working longer today (beyond age 65), we can expect to see top talent come and go. Your most seasoned veterans may seek a reinvention of their roles, or even, a temporary break. They may have already.
It’s an ever-evolving landscape you’re navigating, and one we look forward to creating collaborative conversations around at Agency Forum later this year. In the meantime, keep up the good work, inside and out.
