Speed Channel Tours with a Hydraulic-Powered Stage
Speed, the 24-hour motorsports network, set out to create a portable awards stage for NASCAR events but ended up creating one of the most technically sophisticated, easily accessible mobile event stage-plus vehicles around.
The challenge was the requisite flexibility. The stage needed to be efficiently transported from city to city for events, be able to set up quickly and safely, and have enough secure storage in the setup and transportation modes to be weather friendly.
The trailer arrived at venues and was leveled using a four-point hydraulic leveling system. A stage support system (five track assemblies and 15 support legs) was placed in location to form the support for the 40-foot by 24-foot stage deck. Next, the side wall winched down and two inner stage sections were hydraulically lowered. The stage was then covered with a skid-resistant rubber coating.
The main deck was put into place, followed by the 40-foot inner wall and branded backdrop. Four chain motors raised the entire roof section, lighting was attached, and awnings were extended. Once erected, it was a B-I-G deal. Awards ceremonies, music, activities—Speed Channel literally became the stage NASCAR experiences happened on. The rub off was worth its weight in gold.
