Celebration 150 marked Sherwin-Williams’ 150th anniversary by commemorating its legacy and Code of Principles written by co-founder Henry Sherwin, and inspiring employees to carry them forward. Held at Amway Center in Orlando, the 75-minute experience involved the international audience of 12,000 from the moment they entered the arena until they boarded buses for a surprise after-party at Universal Studios Theme Parks.

The event leveraged a high-energy opening, executive speeches, music, video, the company’s Celebrate Color app and a “Color Cam” video experience that matched people on screen with Sherwin-Williams paint colors. It all came together under particular guidelines from the brand leadership: all creative had to be historically accurate but not dryly academic, respectful but not reverent and moving but not sentimental.

With a 150-year history, a “book,” expressed literally and metaphorically, in human scale and larger than life, became the overarching motif for the event. Aerialists, acrobats, dancers, singers and a live band set the tone during the opening for the events that followed, including appearances by Henry Sherwin and current company executives, until the confetti rained down and a final cheer filled the arena—and executive chairman Christopher Connor exclaimed, “It was amazing, top-notch!”
