MLS Powers the Official Draw Broadcast With LED Tech
The Copa America Centenario Official Draw took place in the United States for the first time in 2016, so the stakes were high for Major League Soccer (MLS) when it came to producing an event worthy of a global audience’s attention. The historic affair had to appeal to loyal soccer fans while enticing U.S. viewers watching a live broadcast from home across two television networks. With that in mind, MLS focused its efforts on the event’s A/V and stage design, ensuring all visual elements looked consistent both in person and at home.
To make it happen, MLS created a branded stage featuring a 20-foot-high oval LED backdrop that served as a scoreboard of sorts, revealing the results of Draw matchups, along with related content and imagery. The display worked in tandem with an intricate lighting system comprised of more than 200 strategically placed lights equipped for a variety of programs, including musical performances and appearances by soccer legends.
In the end, the Official Draw was an official success for MLS, which ultimately scored more than 83 million at-home viewers. And that’s how you level the playing field.
