The launch event for the new Dyson DC15 vacuum took its inspiration from the appliance’s most notable design feature: a ball. On the vacuum, it helps the machine pivot and turn like nobody’s business. At Fordham University in New York City, Dyson expanded the key feature into a 10-story tall inflatable vinyl sphere—with interactive elements, video projections and product displays inside.

An obstacle course let attendees take the vac for a spin, and a microbiology lab taught them about the microscopic nastiness that other vacuums leave behind. A 130-foot ramp inside the structure led to an elevated domed theater that ran a 3-D animated informational video. The event drew more than 7,000 people and attracted tons of New York media coverage.
