Tocquigny Takes Food Porn To The Next Level

Tacos, tequila and food porn. Only at South by Southwest could all three be combined aboard a flamboyant three-day bus tour in the name of experiential marketing. And that’s exactly what happened at the interactive portion of this year’s festival, where the Austin-based digital marketing agency Tocquigny (rhymes with bikini) enhanced its popular Taco Tour with a digital experience that turned food porn into, well, porn porn (sort of).

Launched at SXSW in 2014, the Tocquigny Taco Tour garnered plenty of attention by transporting festivalgoers to taquerias around Austin in a tour bus wrapped in a custom-illustrated design, complete with an overstuffed 3D taco perched atop the front of the vehicle.

At this year’s festival, the mode of transportation was the same, but the journey offered some extra seasoning. While riding the Taco Tour, which took place March 14-16, guests enjoyed local drink options from the tour’s sponsors, Dulce Vida Tequila and Twisted X Brewery. The meat of the activation, however, was the agency’s incorporation of food porn.

The goal of this erotic activation? “Just general awareness of the agency and involvement and to have [participants] experience our brand as being fun,” says the agency’s ceo, Yvonne Tocquigny. “And also getting a lot of buzz on social media and eventually getting new customers.”

Coasting off of the popular social media trend, which entails people taking photos of their food, tagging it as #foodporn and sharing it, Tocquigny put a spin on its Taco Tour by taking the term literally. To highlight the agency’s fun spirit, the website tqtacotour.com/foodporn invited users to upload five-second videos of themselves eating tacos (or any food), which was then “foodporn-ified.”

After uploading the video, the site’s app automatically slowed down the footage, added a grainy filter and overlaid it with funk music associated with ’70s porn films. A link to the video was then emailed to users, allowing them to watch and share their “leaked” food porn video on social media using the hashtag #TQTacoTour. The slogan: “Shoot your own #FoodPorn video. Leak it to all of SXSW.”
