To promote the second season of “Shear Genius ” cable net Bravo last month offered New Yorkers free blowouts by the show’s 12 contestants in a one-day Times Square pop-up hair salon. The first 100 guests in line for a blowout received a gift bag brimming with Nexxus hair products.
A key design element: 10 uniquely-themed salon chairs designed by art students at the New York School of Visual Arts.
“The chairs are fully functional pieces of art and consumers can sit on them while getting their hair styled ” Valerie Brown director-digital marketing and events at Bravo told Buzz. “Doing a live event works to showcase our talent and allows consumers to interact with our talent by being able to benefit directly from their talent.”
The chair designs ranged from a diner theme to a punk rock motif. The idea of designing the chair sculptures originated from an ad promoting the show which features a chair with a scissor sticking out the back.
Visitors to the salon had a chance to vote for their favorite chair at an interactive gallery on the exterior of the pop-up via text messaging to Bravo. Bravo will be profiling each chair and its artist on bravotv.com. The winning chair and artist will be featured additionally in a separate story. Agency: Grand Central Marketing New York City.
